We have a schizophrenic, megalomaniac fraud with dementia running the country and I'm sorry I voted for him 3x. I thought he was George Washington but it turns out we got Benedict Arnold.

Anti-Hip's avatar

I never thought he was George Washington, but I did think he might make a real sacrifice for a greater good. It's clear now he really does think he'll be rewarded (i.e. not totally f*cked over) for following the directions of his masters. (I think there's something beyond fishy with the first assassination attempt, and it includes him.)

This is one of those moments where the headline is basically true in market terms, even if lawyers will argue about the word “closed”. From what’s being reported, the IRGC has publicly declared the Strait “closed” and threatened to attack transiting ships, and the practical result is already a de facto closure: ships anchoring, insurers pulling/raising war-risk cover, and traffic collapsing because captains and underwriters won’t sign off on a transit that can’t be priced.

Two things can be true at once:

1. There may be no “formal notice” of closure in the tidy, international-law sense.

2. Commerce doesn’t wait for formalities; if credible threats + disrupted navigation/insurance make passage non-viable, the Strait is effectively shut.

And the knock-on effects are exactly what you’d expect from the world’s most important energy chokepoint: risk premiums spike first (shipping, insurance, futures), then real shortages show up if it persists long enough to drain buffers. The Strait carries a huge fraction of globally traded oil and gas, so even a partial shutdown is an “everything tax” on the global economy.

One additional nuance I’d add: these situations often don’t resolve with a single decisive “re-open.” They resolve with an ugly middle period, such as convoys, selective transits, spoofed AIS, higher war-risk deductibles, where the Strait is technically open but operationally throttled. That’s where prices stay elevated even if a few ships start moving again.

In other words: the closure is already real enough to matter, and the longer it lasts, the more it stops being a headline and becomes a structural shock.

Unfortunately for the World, Americans as atypical didn’t do their due diligence at election time, seldom ever do, in that sense are lazy relying on media talking points, tribal voting patterns to cast and use the most power they hold .. their vote.

They perennially vote in the insane and psychotic like S.C Senators Lindsay Graham, bereft of intellect Ted Cruz, whilst worst of all bemoan AIPAC, any lobbyist money in politics and then just keep voting in those beholden to such, wondering aloud why their interests are never served. As an outsider looking in it makes no sense, rather than take a chance on someone untested, untried, primaried, or standing as an independent.

Sadly American voters are suckered time and time again buying the rhetoric such cannot be trusted, a challenger, an independent, nope, voting such is a waste, horsehit I say, how do you expect any change from what you have to contend with, bemoan and slag off by way of the corrupted, bought, paid for that serve not you but those who pay the most, if you won’t ever take a chance, nope instead it’s the same old, same old, then bitching and moaning, bellyaching until the next cycle only to repeat it all..madness, get money out of your politics.

Hopefully getting spanked as you are by Iran in the process your overpriced, overhyped military industrial complex being shown up as useless will set you free, well at least in part, no one in their right mind will buy your rubbish for defense, if they do it’s a bizarre form of self flegellation I say.. F35’s useless, more hours needed for maintenance than they actually fly, with apparently 50% of the fleet ever only available, $18Billion carriers that cost $63million a day to operate cannot have toilets that flush, a problem known since it was built, in short American tax payers have been stiffed, now your stuck with Patriots and Thaad, Aegis systems that are going to be depleted of munitions needed to sustain conflict, whilst your MIC has capacity to build only tens per annum as replacement.. this whilst each firing requires 2/3 in defense at $2-5million a shot type dependant to down a drone that costs $20-80,000.00 the math, the capacity doesn’t add up, in short you’ve been screwed, worse, your MIC rips you, it’s so good they then plow tens if not hundreds of millions each 4 year cycle into buying your politicians to keep it all going.. rinse, repeat, no surprise your screwed when it counts, against a peer military or military that can fight back, but those dividends are great as is the stock upside.. perverse..

U.S and Western weaponary has been found wanting, Saudis found out Patriots were crap when Houthi missiles neary turned their oilfields and Refineries into dust, the reason they called off their years long conflict, Ukraine the same as Russia destroyed everything from Manpads jammed, Himars, Patriots, Abrams, Bradley’s F16’s all junk burning or destroyed or captured and on show Red Square Moscow.. the 12 day war, the genocidist Fascist Zionists cried off, The Dome paper, just as has been this go round Tel a Thief ablaze together other cities falling to precision munitions fired through the David Sling, Arrow Dome safety net…

Watch this space worse is to come, a report I read stated the 3 jets bought down friendly fire were not such, they were shot out of the sky Drones equipped A2A missiles Russia perfected and used to. Devastating effect in Ukraine, hardly surprise Nazi Airforce has been destroyed together only 3 of the F16’s transferred still available .. Russia under the agreement Iran shares all improvements their scientists and MIC engineers come up with to Iran who supplied Russia the Shahed in the first place, a great arrangement by the look of it, one that has worked as it should..

if I were American and want money out of Politics I’d be praying this continues, destroying your corrupted MIC, no one in their right mind will buy the gear offered, why would they, it’s a pretty extreme example of self flagellation doing so, unreliable, I wouldn’t want it… Iran despite what you’ve heard and been told your propaganda had deaths of 3200, 1100 of which were caused rioters paid the CIA Mosaad, the rest, yes did fall to the Iranian authorities suppressing what had turned into a violent protest, meanwhile Hijaab is not mandatory, seeing first hand woman in night markets wearing western attire, American Reporter Patrick Henningsen who visited Tehran 3 weeks ago did an excellent piece detailing woman are educated in universities, schools, that’s why nearly half of the 185 kids killed day 1 by a pilot the Lincoln (Netanyahu told Gox that incident wasn’t Israel or an Israeli pilot, it was U.S missiles that did it, Iran tracked it to the Lincoln, (hence why it was targeted with a 4 missile barrage)

The Ordinance dropped was U.S as noted nearly half the 185 children killed were girls, school kids, aged 5-9 … mind you as we know and witness with ICE on the rampage, the number of police deaths of suspects, America is hardly in a position to pontificate, bet you’d be pissed if say Russia, China any other nation thought, we ought go in and have a crack at that murderous lot given the way they treat innocents… how does it go, those in glass houses ought not … something like that…

Maybe America ought keep what’s become a big noses out of other States affairs lest the same occasion to you, seriously unless your invited, stay out of it, every intervention has been ruinous, done you no favours, won you no fans, your nation has caused such destruction around the world with your penchant for getting your rocks off with endless wars, regime changes, dictators seated, leaders assassinated it’s beyond laughable… but at least Iran might just help end it and allow the phoenix to truly rise… just saying

Lots of debt means an economic unraveling is in the cards. Sure, something will be retrospectively constructed as the “cause” or “trigger”. Doesn’t mean oil will skyrocket or the Straight of Hormuz will be closed. Irans capacity is very rapidly being degraded and will soon be a thing of the past IMHO. What happens to our cost of oil then? I predict 50 bucks a barrel within 6 months.

Since Trump has never shown any concern for anyone but himself, you'll forgive me that I don't believe he gives a whit for the Iranian people. This is about pleasing Israel and the Zionists and is a huge distraction from the Epstein files, whcih are competely out of the news. Mission accomplished, Mr. President.

That is the propaganda?

Ben Ottenhof's avatar

As long as the us has its neocons and the military industrial complex they will always be looking for a war, regardless who the President is. Oh, and don't forget the efforts of the WEF to have a one world government using the UN.

It certainly was never about Iran's nuclear ambitions, just like Venezuela was never about fentanyl. I agree with you. This is about Israel's desire to topple the Iranian regime, have it splinter into 2 or 3 warring factions that can be set against each other, and Israel filling the power vacuum it creates. As for why Trump did it, Rubio already told us: Israel said we're going in; Trump's just following orders.

Evilness of Bibi/Trump roughly equal to Epstein pimping Black Widow Sex with juniors and then eating them. Though you do have to give Jeff E. kudos for lasting so long..

But Bibi/Trump shindig features spectacular pyrotechnic displays with no need to censor like Gaza.

Iran doesn’t have a Navy left. I think this closure deal is going fade fast. The US has plenty of oil and controls Venezuelan oil.

China on the other hand…they are screwed.

Marcel Huerlimann's avatar

Venezuelan oil does not help, takes many years to increase production. Iran only needs some missiles and mines to threat the street. So it could get nasty if not stopped soon.

Ben Ottenhof's avatar

China has a direct railway link to Iran, they could transport oil on it?

If the world knows that Iran is a rogue nation and can close the straight at will, why do other countries allow the corrupt Iranian regime to exist. Get rid of the religious extremists and most of these problems will go away.

such a newb opinion. When you’re ignorant about one subject, the Muslims, just call them a name and be done with it. Eh? Iran is winning. It didn’t do anything except rest in the pockets of the city of London. Trump wanted the Europeans out and he got that. Iran only struck back because it was attacked. It has a right to defend itself. The Muslims have a right to defend themselves. The biggest terrirists are the Israelis. The zionists and by proxy the Americans. But you know what the casualty is for all the ignorant out there?! The Americans. Their veil of invincibility has been lifted. Watch them retract and lose their hegemonic terrorist grip over the ME.

Michael O'Neill's avatar

The world is told it's a rogue nation but is it really? Rogue makes me think of a lawless entity running around doing what the hell it wants regardless of everything else. Does that sound like Iran?

yes, but only what we have been told.
