Hi Matt! Thank you very much for this book! I am a 49 year old man, grew up in IL too, went to Illinois State, just up the road from you at U of I, probably at about the same time! You were smart enough to get out of the system, I was not. I stayed and got a worthless BA in Psychology, and then a worthless MA in Gerontology from Western Illinois University. Luckily, I got a job fixing computers for ISU as an undergrad, and have spent the last 20+ years doing just that with my own small business, first for 19 years living on the Big Island of Hawaii, and now from our new home in Arkansas (had to escape HI during Covid, the lockdowns were just too crazy there). Anyway, even though I feel like I am in no way a universal man like you and Doug are, but I am working to change that and have become a personal development monster, both in acquiring knowledge and executing with it. My wife and I are in the midst of launching a new business now, and once the launch pressure is off, I hope to pick and choose some elements of The Preparation I can go through myself (investing, etc). I heard your interview with Mike Adams on Decentralized.TV and bought the book right away. I have two three young men in my family, two nephews, sons of my sister, and one son-of-my cousin. All of them have deadbeat dads that are no longer in the picture, and are being raised by single moms who are doing their absolute best, but I feel would benefit from this information and a strong, present, male role model in their lives. I have purchased copies of this book, and have scheduled weekly zoom calls with my 8th grade nephew so we can go through the book together. So far, so good. I will check back in and keep you posted on our progress. Just a suggestion... this was a fantastic interview. I was so excited to share it with my sister and cousin to clue them in on the work I am doing with their sons. BUT, Doug's off the cuff comment about "trannies" in the last 20 seconds just absolutely destroyed that possibility, as both my sister and my cousin (I love them dearly) are both very much on the left and would find that remark highly offensive and throw out the two of you and the content of the whole interview because of those few seconds. (My cousin is literally in charge of DEI at a university). I am trying to use this book to help build a bridge between the huge left/right chasm in my IL family, and help open the door for these young men in my life to an absolutely extraordinary future they would never be able to achieve without it. Maybe re-edit the video and cut off those few seconds at the end? If not, with your permission I would love to "Loom" record the video and edit it myself, just so I can share it with my family. Thanks again for everything you are doing.
Jim, thank you very much for the message. I totally understand your point about the end of the video, so feel free to clip it and share it so it's most helpful to you.
Yes, please check back in and let me know how things progress!
I've been listening to Matt and Doug discuss this book. Now that it's out, I'm waiting for the copy I purchased for my son to arrive so I can get his take on it. Maybe it will help me take him out of the mental void he's in; heck, I might even learn something. This type of book is overdue, as this type of philosophy needs to grow in our culture again.
Thank you gentlemen for the books. I have been following you Matt since you started this grand adventure with Doug. Thank you both for commissioning this improbable endevour. Just placed an order for some books and wanted to let you know the positive effect you will have. 6 young men will be receiving the book, 4 of which have a high likely hood of success, and 1 guaranteed. One of the hardbacks will be going to a PHD in education policy and has strong affiliations with the heavy hitters. With luck the book may spread within those ivory tower confines. So forewarning: prepare yourselves.
Doug I do this for you because you have breathed new life into the corpse of the noble ideas of honor, loyalty, and absolute truths. All at devalued rock bottom lows as the true speculator you are. Thank you. - Eric C
Very generous of you, Eric. Thank you so much for your support.
Be sure to read one through for yourself and give us a review on Amazon. It really helps. Apparently, having less than 50 reviews is a major problem. And at this point, we're at seven. So that would be appreciated as well if you get around to reading it and don't mind. Thank you.
Definetly will read and yes will get those reviews up and have the boys do it... a couple of weeks should get them doubled at least. The review systems are the only non-pay-for algorithm that works (I have a publicly accessible 1st floor store in Long Island, google reputation™ is all that matters)
The PhD is my copy she is the wife and we are home schooling and our oldest is only 3 though. I'll be making it out to our farm in less then 1 or 2 years as well. There continues to be an exodus from NY and I make my money off asset transfer (numismatic & bullion) so I'm trying to pickup pennies in front of a steam roller right now. While making sure my existing long term clients are taken care of. Just navigating in society right now is the highest level of stress I have ever had. (I had jobs where I burned 10k+ calories a day laboring.)
Based on the slow down in the speed of money transferring the middle and upper middle class here, I believe the roller coaster is going to start very, very soon. Your book is exactly what is needed at exactly the right time and part of a positive vision for the future all of us here want to reclaim. I'll do my part where I can and thank you again for all you do, sincerely.
I think this book is quite suitable for girls, as well! I went to college and graduated, because I was told (at the age of 18) that I would never be hired as a woman, if I did not. I went into full time work , not very much prepared for the downside of doing something that I did not like, just to make a living. It was only when I developed my own business, that there was a passion to go to work everyday. I was self employed for 32 years, and enjoyed every minute. In fact, I am looking again for another challenge! Wishing you all much success with this book.
Doug mentioned the Boy Scouts. The oath included Being, the meritorious activities included Doing and the badges and ranks included Having. A good prototype for the rubric of development your Preparation is describing perhaps? Unfortunately, like so many institutions promoting values and wide ranging competence for men and women it seems to have been disparaged and marginalized.
Love the concept of this book but I am curious as to why it is directed at men only. Do you not recommend the same path for women and if not, I am curious as to why that would be the case?
This book is meant for men because it deals with the insecurities, anxieties, motivations, and hopes that are common to young men, and often very different from those of young women.
Do I think women could benefit from following this path? Absolutely. But I think this book in particular is less likely to connect with them in the same way as it would a young man.
I have a 17-year-old daughter who is at the stage that my son was at when we began writing this book. So there's a very good chance that we'll be coming out with a version for young women met to connect with them in the same way.
My son is just turning 18 doesn’t want to go university, but unsure what path to take besides becoming a professional boxer and earning as much as possible
The guide sounds ideal for a plan b and c he’s well traveled and confident
I'm 85 years old. Ordered the book the day came out. Travel the world when I was young for a year it completely changed my life. It's a book that's been needed for a long time. Thanks
I don't have the book yet but one thing my boys are interested in is taking some classes to be certified for the merchant mariners and do a few months on ships. Met a few who live overseas, got their citizenships in other countries by doing this, and only visit the usa a month a year to see family.
I've appreciated watching you and Doug discuss and work on this project and Maxim's recent submissions and am excited that it's published now, in all three forms, and applaud the value and the strategy. I am sharing your notices and critiques and will continue to encourage readers and benefactors for such young people who are ready to prepare themselves for the world that's here now. Congratulations and thanks.
I saw the comment about Girls and Preparation. I also had that question. I assume this work was because of your son, there fore male oriented. Surely the same principle will apply. I'll keep an eye out for your answer.

I sure hope it helps him. Just get him to read the preface. If he’s like most young men, it could ignite a spark.

I hope you come out with that version. I would buy it for a young lady that I think would benefit from it. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for this, Doug. Matt. The world’s a better place now.
Yes, these ideas are needed. Mike Rowe broke through with Real Jobs & Real Opportunities that don't come from College.
The younger man needs mentors, needs to hear from Gents like you and maybe even men like me.
Teach the children well...

Is this book also good for girls? After all, girls also go to college, many of them. Is that a good alternative for them too? Thanks for the reply.

I can't imagine why not. There's just as many female EMTs, pilots, and everything else out there
